Poet's Corner

The original “Poets’ Corner” exists in Westminster Abbey, London, England, where scores of writers, playwrights and poets call the South Transept their eternal home. Unfortunately for these rather stiff residents, their existence is evidenced with a stone monument and whispers carry the thoughts of the current event of the day.

Acme Oyster House has been the quintessential French Quarter home for our own boisterous wordsmiths over the past 100 years at the southeast end of the bar. Although the quality of the spoken word tends to be slurred as the sun goes down, the minds remain sharp in the discussion of politics and sports.

The Corner continues to be a source for information on the latest lines, prognostications of business, legal and athletic competitions. Depending on who is standing on the soap box at the time, it also serves as a marketplace directory for most commodities.

WARNING: First Time Patrons are warned of sitting in or near the Corner. All people, regardless of race, color, or creed (political or personal), are treated with the same unbiased irreverence. If a patron is offended, they are somewhat politely asked to reposition themselves at a boring establishment no nearer than 100 feet of the front door of Acme Oyster House.
